I need to uninstall Windows XP from my laptop to be able to remove some old programs and Windows Me from my laptop. I need to know if I use my cd software for Windows XP to ininstall the xp version, can I still use the Windows XP software to re-install XP on my laptop once all the old programs are removed?
you ask a complex question here. We do not know anything about how it is installed. ME runs Fat32, XP can do it in that file sytem but should run NTFS, and is it on same partition or do you use another disk partition. If you want to remove all from your PC, you don't need any CD. You just reinstall XP and with the dsik windows xp softwaremanager at installation you just delet the disk partitions, make new partition, format to ntfs and you intall windows XP. To remove application only you don't need any CD.
If you remove XP from the system. just delete it from your ME explorer, remove ntldr and boot.ini (hidden) files and then reinstall ME in repair mode redo the boot sector for ME.
yes you should be able to
heres an easier way, start up the pc and pop in the disk. start installing xp. it will ask if you want to erase the old one. use (quick) format to wipe out the drive, and a fresh xp will b installed
Yes, if there are any licensing problems... contact Micrwindows xp softwareosoft. They are more than happy to help as long as you explain the situation. I used to be in a class that involved hardware and software maintenance and we used the same copy of windows over and over, we just needed to contact Microsoft to explain that the license wasn't being violated.
If I understand you; you want to uninstall WinXP clean the drive, then reinstall WinXP. That shouldn't be a problem, but you should backup improtant files becuse if you use the cd to uninstall, you will be wiping the drive clean and everything will be gone. you will be installing on a clean drive.
Good Luck
