I have noticed that some websites offer "older apps" to limewire as well as older versions of many different software's. So would it be ok to download the limewire from this kind of site? I realize people will say use frostwire, bit torrents etc but the question is can I legally download an older version. Not what I should use instead of limewire.
Limewire (Frostwire=Open Source of Limewire) is legal software and can be down loaded. It's only software that allows peer to peer connections, but the concern is the fact the Lime wire file server is shut down, so what real use is the software.
There is nothing illegal about peer to peer network software that does file sharing, it is what people try to download that is legal or illegal. What is shared from other computers connected to the network and most peer to peer network software does not have a file server that you get files off of.
Using bit torrents is no different, it has things that are also illegal to share and down load. It's just a different way of doing peer to peer network file sharing. They all share one thing in common and that is searching for files you can down load.
hear's your answer
LimeWire is under a court order dated October 26, 2010 to stop distributing the Lidownload old limewire versionsmeWire software. A copy of the injunction can be found here. LimeWire LLC, its directors and officers, are taking all steps to comply with the injunction. We have very recently become aware of unauthorized applications on the internet purporting to use the LimeWire name. We demand that all persons using the LimeWire software, name, or trademark in order to upload or download copyrighted works in any manner cease and desist from doing so. We further remind you that the unauthorized uploading and downloading of copyrighted works is illegal.
copy paste from official website
its illegal
i wont comment on the use of it
..
Yes, it's legal to download it, but it's illegal to use it to share and download copyrighted stuff!!
You should also try to buy your medias like most people since you are part of the problem. Prices are high because companies believe they are being ripped off online. Because of people stealing online, in a couple of years everything will change. You will never be able to "have" something, it will be online. Like Netflix, onLive and other services, the internet piracy is quickly killing the "copies".
it shouldn't be illegal at all as long as you don't use the music to record on a CD and sell them don'tdownload old limewire versions
get me wrong you could put it on a CD but you just cant sell them for copyright infringement and frostwire is something just like lime wire but just different names limewire still does exist
*hope this helped*
I don't think Limewire - as a piece of software - is illegal. It's how the software is used that can be illegal (which is the case more often than not).
If you use the software to share files that you are legally entitled to share there is not a problem. But if, for instance, you share copyrighted music then you are doing something illegal.
Legally if it was free to download, its now free to download too. But if it wasnt free to download it will not be untill copyright expires, strictly speaking, even if software is not on the market anymore (all those old "abandonware" games for example are not free to download)
limewire has been shut down. use frostwire its the same.
Just download the newer version. It's faster.
Nope there is not way any version of Limewire is legal
Yes BUT useless.
=
Beware of downloads being viruses, spyware, or other malware.
i thought they shut off limewire completely
its not legal. Nothin is legal unless you pay for it.
