why do newborns have hiccupsWhy does my newborn hiccup alot why hasnt she opened her eyes?

I just had my baby girl August 22,2007 I am a first time mommy so I was wondering if any of you could tell me why does she hiccup often? Shes laying down when it starts and I do make sure and burp her after she gets feed, should i be concerned? Also she hasnt opened her eyes yet, I mean she tries and when they kinda open they move from side to side she focuses them for a little bit but then they start moving around again. She was born a week before her due date, could this be the cause? Sorry for asking dumb question but like I said Im a first time mommy. Thank you for your answers!
My baby hiccuped a lot when he was little too. It no big deal and doesn't bother them like it might bother us. With age, you baby will stop hiccuping as much.
No worries.

Best wishes to you and yours!

Here's a little link for some more info on it.
Don't worry. Hiccups are both normal and common, and unrelated to burping. Many people think they ARE related, but doctors have never been able to conclusively discover the cause of hiccups as it is, so they cant link it to burping either.

It lessens as the months go by. My newborn would get so mad at her hiccups! She's 4 months and only gets them a couple times a week now.
Their little eyes are sensitive to light. try turning down the lights. If this continues call your doctor. Twhy do newborns have hiccupshey are the best source of what is normal or not.
Babies hiccup a lot right after birth. That will go away in a few weeks. It is just their immature bodies working everything out.

Also she has opened her eyes, but newborns tend to sleep a lot. And I mean a lot.

If you have any questions, your pediatrician will be more than happy to talk to you about them. You should call them and ask these question.
my son was born a week early to, he also hiccuped alot but eventually they went away, she probably isn't used to the light yet, don't worry they are little stepping stools they have to go through
hiccus are normal for the little ones, but her not opening the eyes maybe she's not ready and she may still be sensitive to lite but you can ask her Dr. but I am pretty sure she's fine
Both are very normal. Give her eyes time. She is knew to this world and trying to adjust. Hiccups may stay for awhile as they are normal for all babies.
the hiccups are normal.

as for the eye opening...it may be too bright for her to keep her eyes open comfortably. my daughter had the same shaky eyes when she was born (she's now 4 years old) and her dr told me that it too was normal she just had a hard time focusing. this should get better in a week or 2
Maybe your baby she hiccups offten because she is hungry?
Maybe she is nowhy do newborns have hiccupst ready to open her eyes, I dont think is any proble, dont worry, everything will go fine
...And remember they arent any dumb question, you are concern about your baby. So what you dont know, Ask
good luck... and Congratulations
My son hiccuped a lot when he just a couple weeks old-it will improve on its own in time.
I noticed that if he is overstimulated-he will hiccup.
Do you have a lot of windows? My son squinted with his eyes shut with sunlight for a while-I don't remember exactly when he stopped doing that.
I'm not sure about why newborns get the hiccup's. They all do. It maybe be an undeveloped system. Make sure you are not exposing her to bright lights. Remember your baby has been in a very dark place for a long time. Your baby sounds very normal.
Some babies hiccup a lot, I know my son did as a newborn. It's nothing to be concerned about. As for her eyes, I've never had that experience with my babies. But I know newborns have trouble focusing and they look cross-eyed at times.
None of it has anything to do with your baby being born a week early. Remember, your due date is just an estimate - babies can arrive anytime between 36-42 weeks. Your baby was born at 38 or 39 weeks so she's a full-term baby.
