If you listen to the tune of the University of Virginia fight song (the Good Ol' Song) and the tune of the traditional New Year song (Auld Lang Syne), they are the same. Is this intentional? What is the story behind this?
They are totally different, how can you think they are the same!;
The UVA Fight Song is The CAVALIER SONG not the Good Ole Song, whsame auld lang syneich is the Alma Mater. The latter is without a doubt the same as Auld Lang Syne. 8 measures musically exactly alike will stand in court as musical plagarism and the first 8 bars are the same. Take it from a musician and a Wahoo.
The Good Ole Song is frequently played at Football game as is the Fight Ssame auld lang syneong, The Cavalier Song. Follow the link below & hear it.

They are nothing like each other.
It's just the way you sing!
